This position reports to and collaborates closely with the Director if Children’s Services to provide support, assessments, programs, and group and individual experiences for children and youth residing in Sonshine Centre who have experienced domestic/family violence and other forms of trauma. These supports will be used and put in place to enhance the abilities of children and youth to recover from the effects of the violence and trauma they have experienced. Support will be delivered not only to the children and youth residing in the Centre but also up to 6 months of follow-up support will be provided to those who have transitioned out of the shelter into the community. This position will also provide support to the mothers of the children in the Centre for parenting-related matters as well as act as a liaison with Sonshine’s Children’s Centre and Sonshine’s Residential Child Care programs.
The Child Support Worker will be working in an innovative, therapeutic child care program/children’s centre for children who have experienced family violence and/or trauma. The successful candidate will be working together with our child support team and the Program Supervisor in a professional, child-focused and trauma informed program that meets the needs of typically developing children and children impacted by toxic stress and trauma.
