Spring Into Action
A note from our Executive Director.
With Spring upon us, I’m reflecting on the incredible resilience, renewal and regrowth taking place outside our doorsteps.
Patches of green grass, tiny leaf buds, and more sunlight are reminders that even in the depths of winter, there is transformation under the surface. This is something we know well at Sonshine Community Services.
Because of the generous support of the Sonshine community, 8 women and 6 children are taking the next courageous step on their transformation journeys as they move out of the Sonshine Centre and into their own home in community this Spring.
Our commitment to walking alongside the women and children of Sonshine is ongoing, as dedicated staff will continue to support building safe, healthy relationships and positive life skills after leaving the shelter.
This can be an incredibly vulnerable time in a survivor’s healing, and with your help we can ensure that no woman or child is left behind.
We’d like to challenge you to Spring Into Action alongside these brave women and children impacted by domestic violence, and create a ripple-effect of transformation.
The Sonshine Spring challenge is on from March 15 – April 30 and we are aiming to raise $100,000 to support our transformational services and programs to women and children impacted by domestic violence.

Every dollar you donate will help provide life-changing opportunities and supports for Sonshine clients as they begin this new chapter.
Here is Henry and Rita’s story from our housing program – just one example of the work and effort your donations greatly effect:
Rita and her adolescent son, Henry, found Sonshine as their home away from home. They both struggled with trauma from family violence. The trauma impacted Henry’s ability to engage in school and he was quickly losing pace with his peers. Using a “One Family One Plan” approach, Sonshine staff wrapped around this family and supported Rita with the care she was needing to heal. They also provided mental health supports, social developmental support and educational advocacy for Henry. When Rita experienced a health crisis and was hospitalized, the Sonshine team supported Henry to stay at Sonshine through working with him to welcome his natural support and develop a good care plan.
Henry and his mom, Rita, are both thriving. They live with a more secure connection to each other and their community of supports.
Your gift will ensure we can keep pace with the increased needs of families who are healing from the impact of domestic violence, as well as the isolation and economic uncertainties faced by many.
Spring Into Action! Give the gift of Transformation. Together, lives can be changed.
